Twice a year, the shadow of the East Mitten is cast on the West Mitten by the setting sun in Monument Valley. In addition the moon rises in the background. Monument Valley lies on the boarder of Utah and Arizona, near the four corners region. It was made famous by film director John Ford in his western movies. These sandstone buttes are over 1,000 feet tall.
