Hiking along the many trails in Zion National Park, people are generally in too big of a rush to get to their destination to stop and look around them, taking in the sights high on the cliffs above them. Also, they are often too tired, just hoping to make it. This is an example of reflected light. The cliff across from this red cliff is in full sun, reflecting the soft light you see here.
